Master of Science in Wildlife Health Management
My name is Dickson Mwita Wambura, with the age of 33 years, possessing a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine from Sokoine University (SUA) Tanzania. Currently, I am employed as a wildlife Veterinarian in Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA).
I am interested to pursue a MSc project on Molecular epidemiology of brucella species circulating in wildlife and livestock and associated risks to public health in Serengeti Ecosystem. This study will help to know which brucella spp circulating in the wildlife, livestock and possible risks to wildlife personnel. Although vaccination is not practiced in the wildlife, other preventive measures may be considered to safeguard spillover and prevent human infection.
First of all, I am very happy to get this chance of being selected as one of the top candidates on this scholarship as I know the hustle of getting scholarship. Then, I believe that, given this golden opportunity will be of great contribution to the wildlife health management to the Serengeti ecosystem, my country and globally at large. My goal is to become the best wildlife and conservation medicine experts in terms of researches and consultation.
This MSc program will fit my future career as I will be able to incorporate molecular epidemiology in my daily conservation activities and researches. Moreover, being an employee in conservation institution and a veterinarian working in a multiple land use area (Area where people, livestock and wildlife coexist), such knowledge will generate a multiplier effect through the dissemination of new skills to more conservationists, disease surveillance team, fellow researchers and the community at large. This opportunity will provide competence that will improve my future performance as wildlife and conservation medicine expert here in NCA, Serengeti ecosystem, in Tanzania and elsewhere.
